#AMS2022 kicked off today online. While we're not as busy as we were recently at #AGU2021, we have several talks worth highlighting:
On Wednesday morning at 10:45am EST, Prof. Westervelt presents 9B.6 Closing the Air Pollution Data Gap in Sub-Saharan Africa through Capacity Building, International Networking, and Data Science Methods. He will highlight some of recent data collection and networking efforts with a focus on a pilot project in Kinshasa based on McFarlane et al. 2021a
It'll be a busy Wednesday as PhD student Garima Raheja presents 11B.2 PM2.5 Measurements…
Last week, we learned that Prof Westervelt's application to the Columbia Data Science Institute Seed Funding opportunity was awarded! It is a $75K award from Columbia Data Science Institute for the project titled "Application of Gaussian Mixture Regression to Obtain Useful, Actionable Air Pollution Data from Consumer-Grade, Low-Cost Monitoring Devices". Collaborators include Prof. Fred Jiang of SEAS and DSI. The project team will develop and apply a novel algorithm to a fast-growing global network of low-cost air quality sensors, thereby empowering communities to better understand their…
We have been well represented at #AGU21 this year. We are there both remotely and in person!! Say hello to Savannah Ward (Senior thesis research student) who is representing in person.
Here's a list of some of our activities. Since the content stays up online for awhile, please feel free to check it out!
- Prof. Westervelt gave a talk on regional climate responses to regional aerosol emissions perturbations in chemistry-climate models
- Celeste McFarlane (research staff assistant) presented a poster on Gaussian Mixture Regression on low cost sensor data in Accra, Ghana
- Garima Raheja (PhD…
Dr. Westervelt is delivering an invited seminar titled "Closing the air pollution data gap in sub-Saharan Africa: pilot studies from several cities" at North Carolina A&T State University on Wednesday, Nov 17.

Dr. Westervelt is giving a short talk at AAAR and chairing a session on Urban Aerosols. His talk is titled: New Application of Gaussian Mixture Regression to Bias-Correct Low Cost PM2.5 Monitoring Data in sub-Saharan Africa.
He is also co-author on a number of talks that can be found in the conference program: https://aaarabstracts.com/2021/program_with_links.php
