NBO-CHEM

The Nairobi aerosol CHemistry and Environmental Monitoring campaign (NBO-CHEM) is a new field intensive atmospheric chemistry campaign taking place in Nairobi, Kenya, measuring urban gaseous and aerosol species in the Central Business District of Nairobi.

The campaign will take place at Kenyatta University City Center Campus, located at Haile Selassie Road, in the heart of Kenya's bustling capital city. The campaign is set to begin on February 3, 2025 through at least May 31, 2025. The measurements will represent some of the most comprehensive atmospheric chemical measurements in all of East Africa. An instrument list is below:

  • Aerodyne Time of Flight Aerosol Chemical Speciation Monitor (ToF-ACSM)
  • Magee Scientific AE33 Black Carbon Aethalometer
  • Thermo Fischer Tapered Element Oscillating Monitor for total particulate matter
  • American Ecotech Serinus 40 Nitrogen Oxides analyzer
  • Thermo Fischer UV Absorption O3 analyzer
  • Thermo Fischer CO monitor
  • TSI Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer
  • MODULAIR and MODULAIR-PM gas and particle sensors
