Our group at #AGU21

We have been well represented at #AGU21 this year. We are there both remotely and in person!! Say hello to Savannah Ward (Senior thesis research student) who is representing in person.

Here's a list of some of our activities. Since the content stays up online for awhile, please feel free to check it out!

  • Prof. Westervelt gave a talk on regional climate responses to regional aerosol emissions perturbations in chemistry-climate models
  • Celeste McFarlane (research staff assistant) presented a poster on Gaussian Mixture Regression on low cost sensor data in Accra, Ghana
  • Garima Raheja (PhD student worker) had a very busy AGU, including a poster on applications of low cost air quality sensors to understand air quality impacts of redlining policy
  • Raheja also presented on air quality data with reference and low cost monitors in West Africa (and also chaired a few sessions!)
  • Prof Westervelt presented a poster "First measurements of PM2.5 and NO2 in Mombasa, Kenya"
  • Savannah Ward (senior thesis student) presented a poster on NOx and PM2.5 measurements in Nairobi, Kenya using reference monitors and low cost sensors
  • Victoria Owusu Tawiah (visiting PhD student) presented on "Seasonal Variation Analysis of Air Pollutants in Accra, Ghana"
  • Benjamin Yang (first year PhD student worker) is attending and diligently learning about the latest science as he refines his research project plans!
  • And last but certainly not least, Dr. Zhonghua Zheng (postdoctoral research scientist) presented an oral presentation on "Machine Learning to evaluate the information content of satellite data for fine particle estimates in India: a modeling testbed".

And here's an action shot from Garima Raheja's talk on air quality in West Africa.

There have definitely been some growing pains with the hybrid AGU event but I'm proud of everyone for handling well what has been thrown their way over the week.
